Fake GTA 6 downloads and fake pre-order pages are the most active scam wave around the game right now, and the payloads are not harmless. Security vendors have documented crypto wallet drainers, infostealers, and ransomware disguised as game installers. If you go looking for a free copy, an early build, or a cheap key, you are the target.
The detail most readers miss is that the scams do not need to hack Rockstar. They only need to sit between your excitement and the buy button.

The campaigns differ in style but share one goal: get you to run something or hand over credentials.

Malwarebytes was direct about the first category: "Any site claiming to sell GTA 6 early access is not authorized by Rockstar Games." Its August report also said there is no GTA 6 demo, because Rockstar has not announced or released one.
The Huntress analysis of the fake ISO is the most serious. It found remote access trojans and a ransomware payload meant to "encrypt and/or destroy files on the system," so the goal is to wreck your data, not to hold it for a small ransom.
Why GTA 6 Is a Magnet for Malware
Attackers follow attention. Kaspersky counted 4,456,499 attack attempts on GTA-disguised files between April 2024 and March 2025 and predicted a spike as GTA VI hype grew, per Kaspersky, June 9, 2025. It issued a fresh warning tied to the pre-order launch on July 9, 2026.
The credential side is just as busy. NordVPN found hundreds of amateur phishing pages targeting Rockstar Social Club logins through fake forms, hosted on GitHub and Vercel, per Mashable, May 27, 2026. Bitdefender described invitations to a "creator preview" or "early console testing" that lead to phishing pages, per the Independent, June 25, 2026.
Norton summed up the strategy: "Scammers don't need to break into Rockstar or hack the game. They just need to get between the excitement and the purchase."
How to Spot a Fake GTA 6 Download or Pre-Order
- The game is not out until November 19, 2026. Any "download now," "play now," or "early build" page is fake.
- There is no Rockstar beta. Any beta key or beta invite is fake, per The Guardian, June 21, 2026.
- Pre-orders exist only on the PlayStation Store, the Xbox and Microsoft Store, the Rockstar Store, and listed authorized retailers, per Rockstar's advisory reported June 25, 2026.
- Only two editions exist, Standard at $79.99 and Ultimate at $99.99, per Forbes, June 24, 2026. A third tier you see listed is not confirmed.
- No crypto payment. The early access scam took about $250 in BTC, USDT, or ETH and delivered nothing, per Malwarebytes, June 23, 2026.

What to Do If You Already Downloaded Something
The payloads here are credential and wallet stealers, so treat anything you entered on those pages as compromised.
- If you entered a crypto wallet seed phrase or connected a wallet, move your funds to a new wallet.
- If you entered PlayStation, Xbox, or Rockstar credentials, change those passwords and turn on two-factor authentication.
- Do not pay any "license" or "unlock" fee. The Huntress analysis describes a license-not-found decoy that pushes victims to pay after the malware is already installed.
