How to Solve Wordle Faster

Research-backed strategies used by top players to consistently solve in 3-4 guesses:

1. Start with CRANE or SLATE - these openers cover the most common English letters (C, R, A, N, E / S, L, A, T, E) and maximize information gain from guess one.
2. Avoid repeating letters in early guesses - five unique letters per guess gives more data. Save repeat-letter words for later guesses.
3. Use guess 2 to eliminate, not solve - if you got limited info from guess 1, use guess 2 on entirely new letters rather than trying to guess the answer early.
4. Think in word endings - common endings like -ER, -ST, -CH, -OUND, -IGHT narrow the field quickly once you have some greens.
5. Don't ignore gray tiles - eliminating letters is just as powerful as finding them. Rule out whole categories of words.
6. Y acts as a vowel - if A, E, I, O, U are not clicking, try words with Y (GLYPH, PYGMY, BYWAY).
7. Turn off Hard Mode if stuck - Hard Mode forces you to reuse hints, which can trap you. Normal mode lets you use "sacrifice" words to test new letters.
8. Track letter positions - mentally (or on paper) map which positions are still open. Pattern recognition is the core Wordle skill.
