Most people pay for Amazon Prime for fast delivery and Prime Video, and get a credit card for cashback. Both come with a lot more than that. Some of it is buried in help pages. Some of it is not a "perk" at all, but a right the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) gives every cardholder, which banks rarely advertise.
This guide lists the useful extras most people miss, plus the old perks that quietly changed, so you do not count on a benefit that no longer exists. Every Amazon detail comes from amazon.in or Amazon's India newsroom. Every card rule comes from RBI, NPCI or the bank's own card page.
Amazon Prime India plans at a glance
Before the perks, know which plan you have. Several of the perks below are only on full Prime.
| Plan | Price | Prime Video | Music, Reading, Luna games | Free fast delivery |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Prime | ₹299 a month, ₹599 for 3 months (for some users), ₹1,499 a year | Yes, with ads, up to 5 devices | Yes | Yes |
| Prime Lite | ₹799 a year (no monthly plan) | Yes, with ads, 1 device in HD | No | Yes |
| Prime Shopping Edition | ₹399 a year | No | No | Yes |
Prices are from Amazon's Prime page and help center. Amazon also says gifting a Prime membership is not available on amazon.in right now.

Hidden Amazon Prime perks
1. Free screen replacement and No Cost EMI on phones
All Prime plans
This is the perk almost nobody knows. It is called Prime Advantage, and Amazon lists it for all three plans, including the ₹399 Shopping Edition.
- No Cost EMI on eligible smartphone purchases.
- 6 months of free screen replacement on eligible phones, provided by Acko at no extra cost.
If you are about to buy a phone on Amazon, check that the listing shows Prime Advantage. A cracked screen in the first six months can cost more than a year of Prime.
2. Pay for Prime in cash on delivery
Prime annual only
No card, no UPI, no problem. Amazon's help page says the annual Prime plan (₹1,499) can be paid with Pay on Delivery. This helps if you do not want to save a card or set up auto-pay. Prime Lite and Prime Shopping Edition are not eligible.
3. Extra 5% cashback on the Amazon Pay ICICI card
Even with Shopping Edition
The Amazon Pay ICICI credit card gives 5% back on Amazon.in for Prime members and 3% for everyone else. Amazon's help page says this applies to all Prime plans. So the cheapest plan, ₹399 a year, gets you the full 5% too.
Quick math: if you spend ₹20,000 a year on Amazon with this card, the extra 2% is ₹400. That alone pays for Shopping Edition.
Other details from ICICI's card page:
- No joining fee and no annual fee.
- Rewards come as Amazon Pay balance and do not expire.
- 1.99% markup on foreign currency spends.
- It is now invite only, so you need an offer in your Amazon app to apply.
4. Early access to Lightning Deals and 5% Prime-only offers
All Prime plans
Prime members get early access to Lightning Deals, plus exclusive Lightning Deals and Deals of the Day. The Prime page also lists an extra 5% off with Prime-only offers and early access to shopping events. These are on all three plans.
During the Great Indian Festival 2026, Amazon also gave Prime members an extra 5% off and ₹250 cashback on many products. We compared that sale with Flipkart's in our Great Indian Festival vs Big Billion Days guide. To know if a "deal" is real, use an Amazon price tracker before you buy.
5. Free PC games every month with Amazon Luna
Full Prime only
Prime Gaming has a new name. Amazon now lists it as Amazon Luna: you can discover and claim PC games each month, included with Prime. Many older articles still call it Prime Gaming. It is not part of Prime Lite or Shopping Edition.
6. Prime Video Channels in one app
Paid add-ons
Prime Video lets you add more than 30 paid channel subscriptions inside the same app, with one bill. Crunchyroll, for example, is ₹79 a month as a channel. It is a simple way to try a service for one month and cancel it in the same place you manage Prime.
7. Cheaper Amazon Fresh and Amazon Now orders
Groceries
In cities with scheduled Amazon Fresh delivery, Prime members get free delivery from ₹249. Non-Prime users pay ₹59 on orders under ₹499. Amazon's India newsroom also says Prime members get extra cashback on Amazon Now, its quick delivery service.
One hidden cost: Amazon says a marketplace fee applies to all prepaid Fresh orders, Prime or not. Check the final bill before you pay.
8. Amazon Family for parents
Parents of young kids
Prime members with children under 5 can join Amazon Family. It gives extra offers on baby products like diapers and baby food. You add your child's details on the Amazon Family page to sign up.
Prime facts that changed
- Prime Video has ads. Ads started in India on June 17, 2025. Ad-free costs ₹129 a month or ₹699 a year more. Live sports and live TV still show ads, even on ad-free. Prime Lite users must upgrade to full Prime to buy ad-free.
- Prime Reading is smaller than you think. Amazon says "hundreds of eligible ebooks", not thousands.
- Amazon Music plays on 1 device at a time on Prime.
- The youth offer is gone. Amazon's old Prime youth offer page now just shows the normal plans.
- Sharing Prime is limited. Amazon's Fresh help page mentions people added to a Prime member's household, but Amazon India has no clear page on what you can share. Do not count on sharing Prime Video.
Credit card rights RBI gives you
These are not bank perks. They are rules from RBI that every bank must follow. They first came in RBI's 2022 Master Direction on credit and debit cards. RBI moved them into its consolidated 2025 card Directions for banks. Banks rarely tell you about them.
1. Close your card in 7 working days, or get ₹500 a day
RBI rule
A bank must close your credit card within 7 working days of your request, as long as you have paid all dues. If it delays, it must pay you ₹500 for every calendar day of delay.
The bank must also accept the request through more than one channel, such as the helpline, email, website, net banking or app. It cannot make you visit a branch or send a letter. Ask for a closure confirmation in writing, and note the date of your request.
2. Change your bill date at least once
RBI rule
RBI says you must get the option to change your card's billing cycle at least once. RBI's FAQ says you can pick any date. This is handy if your bill is due just before your salary comes in. Move the due date to a few days after payday and you will never pay late again.
3. No card, upgrade or limit increase without your consent
RBI rule
A bank cannot send you a credit card you did not ask for, or upgrade your card or raise your credit limit without your clear consent. If it charges you for an unsolicited card, it must reverse the charges and pay you a penalty of twice the amount. If a new card is not activated within 30 days, the bank must ask for your consent by OTP before it activates it.
4. Choose your card network (Visa, Mastercard, RuPay)
RBI rule
Since September 2024, banks with more than 10 lakh active cards must let you choose from more than one card network when they issue a card. If you already have a card, they may give you the choice at your next renewal. Picking RuPay matters if you want to use your credit card on UPI (see below).
5. Zero liability if you report fraud fast
RBI rule
If money is taken from your card through a fraud that was not your fault (a bank or third-party breach) and you report it within 3 working days, your liability is zero. If you report it in 4 to 7 working days, your loss is capped at ₹10,000 for cards with a limit up to ₹5 lakh, and ₹25,000 above that. The bank must credit the money back (a "shadow reversal") within 10 working days.
Banks must let you report a lost card 24x7 by phone, SMS and email, and must block it at once. Save your bank's card helpline in your phone today.
Lesser-known credit card perks (and their new conditions)
Card perks in India have changed a lot since 2024. Many still exist, but now come with a spend condition. Here is what to check on your own card, with one real example each from the bank's own page.
| Perk | What it is | Real example (bank page, October 2026) | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fuel surcharge waiver | Refund of the 1% fuel surcharge | HDFC Millennia: on fuel bills of ₹400 to ₹5,000 | Capped at ₹250 per statement |
| Railway surcharge waiver | Refund of the surcharge on IRCTC tickets | IRCTC SBI cards: 1% | Cut from a higher rate in 2020 |
| Airport lounge access | Free entry to domestic lounges | HDFC Millennia: 1 visit or a ₹1,000 voucher per quarter | Only after ₹1 lakh spend in that quarter |
| Movie tickets | Buy one, get one on BookMyShow | ICICI Sapphiro: up to ₹500 off, twice a month | Needs ₹25,000 spend in the previous quarter |
| Air accident cover | Free travel insurance | ICICI Rubyx: ₹1 crore, international travel only | Card must be used in the last 60 days. SBI Card dropped this cover on several cards from July 2025 |
| Zero forex markup | No extra fee on foreign currency spends | Scapia: zero forex fee, zero annual fee | Most cards charge about 2% to 3.5% |
| Reward expiry | Points last a set time | HDFC Millennia: points lapse after 2 years | Amazon Pay ICICI rewards never expire |
Use a RuPay credit card on UPI
If you have a RuPay credit card, you can link it to UPI apps like Google Pay, PhonePe and Paytm and scan any merchant QR code. You earn card rewards and get the card's interest-free period on everyday UPI spends.
What NPCI allows:
- Merchant payments only. You cannot send money to a person or pay another credit card with it.
- No charge for small shops on payments up to ₹2,000.
You may have read about a new 0.4% fee on UPI payments above ₹2,000 from October 15, 2026. NPCI's FAQ says this is a fee on merchants, not on you, and it applies to bank account UPI payments. Credit card UPI payments follow normal credit card rules. Paying by UPI as a customer stays free.
Quick checklist: get more from what you already pay for
- Check which Prime plan you have and whether you use Video, Music and Luna. If not, Shopping Edition at ₹399 may be enough.
- Buy your next phone on Amazon with Prime Advantage for free screen replacement.
- If you shop on Amazon a lot, check your app for an Amazon Pay ICICI card invite.
- Move your card's bill date to just after payday.
- Read your card's current features page for lounge and movie spend conditions.
- Close cards you do not use. The bank has 7 working days.
- Save your bank's card helpline number in your phone.
