Apple announced the new iPad mini on October 26, 2026. It is the first iPad mini with an OLED screen: an 8.5-inch Super Retina XDR display, the A20 Pro chip and IP67 water resistance, from $699. Pre-orders opened on October 28 and it goes on sale on November 6.
It comes with two new wallpapers: the same looping ribbon design in a blue and an orange version. Each file is 1512 x 2316 pixels, so it fills an iPad screen in portrait and also works on phones.

Which one should you pick?
- Blue: cool blue to violet on black. It suits dark mode and blue or purple accent colors.
- Orange: warm red to gold on black. It stands out more behind white app icons and widgets.
Both have a black background, which looks best on the new OLED screen because black pixels are switched off.
