Pokémon Infinite Fusion (PIF) is a free fan game. It retells the Kanto story of Pokémon Red, Blue, FireRed and LeafGreen, and you can fuse any two Pokémon into a new one. After the Elite Four, the game continues into a large post-game in Johto and the Sevii Islands, with 8 more gyms. That makes 16 badges in total.
This walkthrough follows the progression from your first step in Pallet Town to the summit of Mt. Silver. It covers the gym order, the type and level of each leader, the key items and HMs you need, and how fusion works. We wrote it for version 6.8, the version the community's official walkthrough is checked against. All gym data is for Classic mode on Normal difficulty, unless a line says otherwise.
Before you start: game modes and difficulty
Game modes
The game asks for a mode when you start a new save. Your first save is always Classic. Remix and Randomizer unlock as soon as you have started a Classic save. You do not need to finish it.
| Mode | What it does | How to unlock |
|---|---|---|
| Classic | The standard game. The early routes use mostly Generation 1 Pokémon, but all 501 base Pokémon are in the game. | Always available |
| Remix | Changes wild encounters, trainers and gym leaders so that newer Pokémon show up early. Every gym leader and Elite Four member gets a new type. | Start any Classic save |
| Randomizer | Lets you randomize wild Pokémon, trainers and items. You pick how wide the random range is. | Start any Classic save |
| Legendary | Trainer teams become fusions with random Legendary Pokémon. Your starter is also fused with a Legendary. | Beat the Pokémon League on any save |
Expert mode and Single Species mode are no longer main menu choices. They now sit in the experimental options of the "update man" NPC.
Difficulty
You pick one of three difficulty levels at the start. You can change it later in the game options. The Hall of Fame shows the easiest difficulty you used at any point on that save.
| Difficulty | Experience | Trainers |
|---|---|---|
| Easy | All party Pokémon gain experience after each fight | Only special trainers use healing items. You see the name of the next Pokémon before it switches in. |
| Normal | Only Pokémon that fight gain experience (unless they hold Exp. Share or Exp. All is on) | Only special trainers use healing items. You see the next Pokémon's name. |
| Hard | Same as Normal | Trainer levels are 10% higher. All trainers use healing items. You do not see the next Pokémon's name. |
Hard mode also uses level caps. In version 6.7.2, the developers changed these caps to round down instead of up.
Starter, autosave and the Help Man
- Custom starters only appear on your second save or later. If you choose a custom starter, your rival also gets a custom one, which often makes rival fights harder.
- Autosave keeps your last 10 saves as backups. If you turn it off, you have no backups unless you make them yourself.
- Help Man first appears in the Viridian City Pokémon Center. He can change settings and fix some bugs. Read his menus with care: if you view the Randomizer or Experimental options, the game flags your save as random, and you lose the reward for completing the Pokédex.
Kanto gym order at a glance
You beat the Kanto gyms in the same order as the original games. The difference is that every leader uses fused Pokémon. In a gym battle, you can only use as many Pokémon as the leader has.
| # | Leader | City | Type (Classic) | Badge | Team size | Ace level | TM reward |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Brock | Pewter City | Rock | Boulder Badge | 2 | 12 | TM39 Rock Tomb |
| 2 | Misty | Cerulean City | Water | Cascade Badge | 2 | 22 | TM55 Water Pulse |
| 3 | Lt. Surge | Vermillion City | Electric | Thunder Badge | 3 | 26 | TM73 Thunder Wave |
| 4 | Erika | Celadon City | Grass | Rainbow Badge | 3 | 35 | TM22 Solar Beam |
| 5 | Koga | Fuchsia City | Poison | Soul Badge | 4 | 38 | TM06 Toxic |
| 6 | Sabrina | Saffron City | Psychic | Marsh Badge | 4 | 45 | TM03 Psyshock |
| 7 | Blaine | Cinnabar Island | Fire | Volcano Badge | 4 | 51 | TM38 Fire Blast |
| 8 | Giovanni | Viridian City | Ground | Earth Badge | 5 | 54 | TM26 Earthquake |
"Ace level" is the highest level on the leader's team on Normal. On Hard, trainer levels are 10% higher. A safe plan is to have your main attackers at or a little above the ace level before each gym. Every gym leader also gives Premium Wonder Trade tickets, and several give a cosmetic item such as a hat.
Kanto walkthrough, step by step
Pallet Town to the first badge
- Get dressed. You start in your pajamas. Use the dresser to get the Favorite Outfit, then take a free Potion from the PC in your room.
- Talk to Mom and the neighbors. Mom gives you your Trainer Card. Your rival's sister gives you the Town Map.
- Choose a starter. Professor Oak stops you on the way to Route 1. After you choose, your rival takes the other two starters and fuses them. If you lose this first fight, you only lose experience and money.
- Get Oak's Parcel in Viridian City. The Poké Mart clerk gives you the parcel and your first DNA Splicer.
- Return to Oak. He gives you the Pokédex and Poké Balls. His aides give you two more Poké Balls.
- Explore Route 22. Youngster Mustafa gives a DNA Splicer after you beat him. The optional rival battle here also gives a DNA Splicer, and it unlocks the hidden Secret Garden off Route 1, which holds a Rockruff egg.
- Go through Viridian Forest to Pewter City. Beat Brock for the Boulder Badge.
The Viridian City gym is locked at the start. It is the last Kanto gym you fight, not the first.
Mt. Moon to Lt. Surge
- In Pewter City, finish at least one quest to get HM08 Flash. You need it for the dark room in Mt. Moon and later for Rock Tunnel.
- In Mt. Moon, you meet Team Rocket. You also get TM94 Rock Smash to clear a blocked path.
- Beat Misty in Cerulean City for the Cascade Badge.
- Go to Vermillion City and board the S.S. Anne. The captain gives you HM01 Cut, which you need to reach the gym.
- Beat Lt. Surge for the Thunder Badge. When you leave the gym, a scientist gives you HM07 Teleport. With the Thunder Badge, Teleport takes you to any town or Pokémon Center you visited before. The Fossil Restoration Machine in Pewter City also starts working.
Rock Tunnel, Celadon and the Rainbow Badge
- Go east from Cerulean City through Rock Tunnel. You need Flash or the Lantern (an item that replaces Flash) to see.
- In Lavender Town, the ghosts in the Pokémon Tower block you. You need the Silph Scope first.
- In Celadon City the gym is locked. Go into the Celadon Sewers. Erika joins you as a partner, the fights are 2 vs 2, and she heals your team after each battle. The sewer puzzle uses the water level and floating wooden planks.
- At the end of the sewers is the Team Rocket hideout. Beat Giovanni, take the Silph Scope, and then beat Erika for the Rainbow Badge.
- On Route 16, a Gentleman in a house gives you HM02 Fly.
Pokémon Tower, Snorlax and Koga
- Use the Silph Scope to climb the Pokémon Tower and rescue Mr. Fuji. He gives you the Poké Flute.
- Use the Poké Flute to wake the Snorlax on Route 12 and the one on Route 16. After the Route 16 Snorlax, you get HM04 Strength.
- Route 17 is Cycling Road. You need a Bicycle to use it.
- In the Fuchsia City Safari Zone, a Park Ranger in Area 4 gives you HM03 Surf.
- Beat Koga for the Soul Badge.
Silph Co. and Sabrina
- Team Rocket guards block the Saffron City gates. Beat a guard to get into the city.
- Clear the Silph Co. office. Find the Card Key to open the locked doors. On the top floor you fight your rival, then team up with him against Giovanni in a double battle.
- The Silph Co. president gives you one of the Johto starters. You can also get a Master Ball on 6F.
- Beat Sabrina for the Marsh Badge.
- Optional: the train station in Saffron City goes to Goldenrod City in Johto. You can visit now or after the Elite Four. The rest of Johto opens only in the post-game.
Cinnabar, Mt. Ember and Giovanni
- In Cinnabar Island the gym is locked. Find Blaine in the Pokémon Mansion, solve the statue switch puzzle, then beat him in his gym for the Volcano Badge.
- Team Rocket steals the Seagallop ferry. Surf down the Offshore Road to Mt. Ember.
- At the top of Mt. Ember, Giovanni fuses the three Legendary birds into one Pokémon with three heads. You use one Pokémon at a time and must knock out all three heads. After the battle, you can catch Moltres.
- The sailor gives you the Seagallop Pass, and your rival heads to the old Viridian City gym.
- Beat Giovanni in Viridian City for the Earth Badge, your eighth.
Elite Four and Champion
Show your 8 badges at the League gate on Route 22. Your rival battles you once more on the way. Then cross Route 26 and Route 27 and solve the boulder puzzles in Victory Road. An optional side area on Victory Road 2F holds the Legendary Entei.
You fight the Elite Four in a row. You cannot go to a Pokémon Center or change Pokémon in the PC between battles. If your whole team faints, or you leave, you start again from the first member. Bring healing items, Revives and PP items such as Ethers and Elixirs.
| Order | Trainer | Type (Classic) | Type (Remix) | Levels (Normal) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Lorelei | Ice | Water | 53 to 57 |
| 2 | Bruno | Fighting | Rock | 53 to 57 |
| 3 | Agatha | Ghost | Poison | 55 to 58 |
| 4 | Lance | Dragon | Flying | 54 to 59 |
| Champion | Blue (your rival) | Mixed | Mixed | 58 to 64 |
Your rival's team depends on the starter you picked, so his exact Pokémon and his top level change from save to save. After the credits, the save unlocks New Game+.
Post-game: the Johto and Sevii gyms
After the credits, Professor Oak sends you to meet Professor Elm in New Bark Town. Most of Johto opens now. The western part of Johto (Olivine City and Cianwood City) does not exist in the game. Their leaders, Jasmine and Chuck, are on the Sevii Islands instead.
| Badge # | Leader | Location | Type (Classic) | Type (Remix) | Badge | Ace level |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 9 | Whitney | Goldenrod City | Normal | Doll theme | Plain Badge | 58 |
| 10 | Kurt | Azalea Town | Bug | Grass | Hive Badge | 62 |
| 11 | Falkner | Violet City | Flying | Self-fusions | Zephyr Badge | 63 |
| 12 | Clair | Blackthorn City | Dragon | Dragon | Rising Badge | 66 |
| 13 | Chuck | Boon Island (Sevii) | Fighting | Ground | Storm Badge | 64 |
| 14 | Morty | Ecruteak City | Ghost | Fire | Fog Badge | 67 |
| 15 | Pryce | Mahogany Town | Ice | Ghost | Glacier Badge | 65 |
| 16 | Jasmine | Bond Bridge (Sevii) | Steel | Electric | Mineral Badge | 68 |
This order follows the wiki's post-game page. It is not fixed, but Chuck comes before Morty for a reason: the Spring Boots you need to reach Morty in the Burned Tower are on the Boon Islands.
What each Johto gym needs
- Whitney (Goldenrod): open as soon as you beat the Elite Four. The puzzle asks you to count Pokémon.
- Kurt (Azalea): the town is flooded. Help the townspeople first. Kurt gives you HM06 Dive so you can clear the Slowpoke Well. His gym puzzle is a memory game with spider webs.
- Falkner (Violet): open when you arrive. You hold the run button to walk against the wind, then time your steps on the upper level. North of the city, the top of Sprout Tower has the Golbat Boots, which let you jump gaps.
- Professor Elm (New Bark Town): show him at least two Johto badges. He gives you HM05 Waterfall and a Johto starter.
- Clair (Blackthorn): push boulders into holes, as in Gold and Silver.
- Chuck (Boon Island): reach the Sevii Islands with the Seagallop ferry from Cinnabar. Chuck waits under a waterfall north of Boon Island and battles you on the spot.
- Morty (Ecruteak): first find him in the Burned Tower, which needs the Spring Boots from the Boon Islands. He then goes back to his gym. Bring a Fairy-type move or a status move for his Weainja, which has Wonder Guard.
- Pryce (Mahogany): an ice hockey puzzle where you slide a Poké Ball into a goal. To reach the area through the Ice Mountains, you need the Golbat Boots.
- Jasmine (Bond Bridge): help her find her nephew and his friends in the Berry Forest. She then waits for you on Bond Bridge.
Mt. Silver and the end-game
With all 16 badges, talk to Professor Oak. Your rival and Cynthia ask you to help them look into a space-time anomaly on Mt. Silver. The entrance is at the gate on Route 26, just before Victory Road.
You need these field moves (or the items that replace them) to climb:
- Flash (or the Lantern)
- Rock Smash
- Strength
- Surf
- Waterfall
- Rock Climb (or the Climbing Gear, from the Hiker near the Ice Cavern entrance in the Ice Mountains)
Cynthia blocks the way near the top. At the summit you face a triple fusion of Dialga, Palkia and Giratina, where again you must defeat all three heads. A vortex then takes you three years into the future, where Gold battles you. His team includes the three Legendary beasts of Johto, so save and heal before you take your first step. When you come home, your mom gives you the Shiny Charm.
After Mt. Silver
- Elite Four rematches have 5 tiers. On Normal, tier 1 uses levels 53 to 62 and tier 5 uses level 100. Tier 3 needs Mt. Silver cleared, and tier 4 needs all 16 gym leader rematches.
- Gym leader rematches: leaders appear in the overworld at set times. When you find one, they offer a rematch at the Vermillion City arena.
- Chrono Island: an optional Sevii town that you reach through the Water Labyrinth, or by the rocks south of Resort Gorgeous. Clear the Team Rocket warehouse, then follow Team Plasma to their lab to battle and catch Genesect.
- Legendary Pokémon: 35 Legendaries are catchable. Except for the Kanto birds, they are all post-game in Classic.
Fusion basics
Any two Pokémon can fuse into a new one. The first Pokémon you pick is the head, and the second is the body. Swapping them gives a different fusion with different looks and stats.
- Type: the fusion usually takes the head's first type and the body's second type. If the body has only one type, the fusion uses that type.
- Stats: physical stats (Attack, Defense, Speed) lean toward the body. HP and the special stats lean toward the head.
- Ability, nature and moves: you choose from what the two Pokémon have at the time of fusion.
- Unfusing: you can split a fusion to get both Pokémon back. A fusion cannot fuse again with a third Pokémon (a few special late-game triple fusions are the only exception).
Fusion items and where to get them
| Item | What it does | Where to get it |
|---|---|---|
| DNA Splicers | Fuses or unfuses two Pokémon, then is used up. The new level is weighted toward the higher of the two. | First one free from the Viridian City Poké Mart. Also from trainers on Route 22. Any Poké Mart sells them for 300. |
| Super Splicers | Like DNA Splicers, but the fusion keeps the higher level and the higher IV in each stat | Any Poké Mart for 1,000 after 4 badges |
| DNA Reverser | Swaps the head and body of a fusion | Any Poké Mart for 300 after the first badge |
| Infinite Splicers | Key item. Fuses and unfuses without being used up | Beat the robot in the Cinnabar Island laboratory |
If you play as Charmander, a trade in the Viridian City Pokémon Center is the easiest way to get a Grass type before Brock: the NPC there trades his Bellsprout for a Spearow from Route 22.
