You do not need a pirate site to watch free movies. Big companies like Fox, Paramount, Roku, Amazon and Google run free streaming services that pay for the movies with ads, and your public library card can unlock even more. Pirate sites, on the other hand, are full of pop-ups, fake download buttons and malware, and the streams can vanish overnight.
This list covers 14 legal services that work in 2026. Some are free with ads, two are free with a library card, and one is a public domain archive. Availability depends on where you live, so every pick lists its countries.

1. Tubi
- Android
- iPhone and iPad
- Smart TVs and streaming devices
- Web browser
Biggest free library · FREE WITH ADS
Tubi is owned by Fox and is free from top to bottom. There is no paid tier to upsell you. You can start watching without an account, though signing up lets you save a watch list and resume across devices.

The UK version alone launched with more than 20,000 movies and TV episodes, and the US catalog is larger. You get older Hollywood hits, horror, anime, documentaries and a growing set of Tubi Originals. Tubi is live in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and several Latin American countries.
Good to know: ad breaks are shorter than on cable, but you cannot skip them.

Free live channels · FREE WITH ADS
Pluto TV, owned by Paramount, is built around a channel guide. Open it and something is already playing, from 24/7 movie channels to news, sitcom reruns and reality shows.

There is also an on-demand section where you can pick a movie and start it from the beginning. No account is needed. Pluto TV runs in 30+ countries, including the US, UK, Canada, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Nordics and most of Latin America, and the channel lineup changes by country.
Good to know: the on-demand library is smaller than Tubi's. Use Pluto TV when you want to browse, not search.

Works almost everywhere · FREE WITH ADS
Plex started as an app for playing your own media files, but it also streams thousands of free movies and shows plus hundreds of live channels. All you need is a free Plex account, with no credit card.

Its big strength is reach. Plex launched its free on-demand service in more than 200 countries, with titles licensed from studios like MGM, Warner Bros. and Lionsgate. If you live somewhere Tubi and Pluto TV do not cover, try Plex first. At launch, Plex said it would show about a third of the ads you see on regular TV.
Good to know: the catalog differs a lot by country, so a movie listed for US users may not appear for you.

No Prime membership needed · FREE WITH ADS
Amazon shut down its free service Freevee in 2025 and moved that content into Prime Video. Titles marked Watch for Free play with ads for anyone with a regular Amazon account, even without a Prime membership.

The free selection includes some Amazon MGM Studios originals, licensed movies and series, and a set of free live channels. It is a good option if you already use the Prime Video app on your TV.
Good to know: most of the Prime Video catalog still needs Prime. Look for the free label before you press play.

Free movies with ads · FREE WITH ADS
YouTube has a section of full-length movies that you can watch for free with ad breaks. Open Movies and TV and look for titles marked Free with ads. The selection rotates, and there are usually several hundred films at a time, from action and horror to documentaries. Studios such as Warner Bros. have added batches of free films.

The free movie section is mainly a US feature. Outside the US you will still find full movies posted by official studio and distributor channels.
Good to know: stick to official studio channels. Full movies uploaded by random accounts are usually pirated and get taken down.

Free titles start with one tap, without an account or login. It is a US-only service.

Ad-free, curated films · LIBRARY CARD
Kanopy partners with public and university libraries. Sign in with your library card and you can stream indie films, foreign cinema, classics, documentaries and children's titles with no ads.

Most libraries give you a set number of play credits each month, and some titles (often kids' content) do not use credits. Kanopy is offered by libraries in the US, Canada and Australia, and by some libraries in the UK and New Zealand. Check if your library is listed on the Kanopy sign-up page.
Good to know: the monthly limit and the catalog both depend on your library.

Borrow movies instantly · LIBRARY CARD
hoopla works with libraries in the US and Canada. Besides ebooks, audiobooks and comics, it lends movies and TV episodes. Borrow a film and you can watch it for a few days, with no wait list on most titles.

Your library sets the monthly borrow limit, and some have lowered it. For example, LA County Library cut its limit from 8 to 5 borrows a month in January 2026.
Good to know: a movie and an ebook both count toward the same monthly limit.

Classics, no account · PUBLIC DOMAIN
The Internet Archive is a non-profit digital library. Its Feature Films collection holds thousands of movies that are in the public domain, which means their copyright has expired or was never renewed.

Expect silent films, film noir, old westerns and B-movie horror, such as Night of the Living Dead and early Charlie Chaplin shorts. You can stream in the browser or download the files, with no account and no ads.
Good to know: video quality varies a lot, because many files come from old film prints or VHS tapes.

You can watch in the MX Player app, inside the Amazon shopping app, in the Prime Video app, and on Fire TV, Jio TV and Airtel Xtreme.
Good to know: the catalog leans toward web series, micro-dramas and dubbed international shows more than Bollywood movies.

ZEE5 also runs Free Blockbuster Fridays, where one hit film a week is free to stream for a few weeks, in Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.
Good to know: the free list changes often, so a movie you saw free last month may be Premium now.

Services we left out
- Crackle and Popcornflix shut down after their parent company, Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment, was liquidated in 2024. Crackle came back briefly in 2025 and then went dark again.
- Amazon Freevee and IMDb TV no longer exist as separate services. Their free titles now live in Prime Video under Watch for Free.
- JioHotstar shows some content with ads without a subscription, but most movies need a paid plan and the free selection changes often, so we could not recommend it as a free movie site.
How to stay safe while streaming free movies
Legal free services make money from ads they control. Pirate sites make money from pop-unders, fake download buttons and shady redirects. Here is how to tell them apart:
- Get the app from Google Play, the App Store or your TV's app store, not from an APK on a random site.
- Never install a "video player" or "codec" a site says you need. Real services play in the browser or their own app.
- Skip sites that ask for card details "to verify your age" before a free movie. None of the services above do this.
- Be wary of brand-new domains with names like moviesfree or 123-anything. Pirate sites change domains constantly to dodge takedowns.
- Use a normal browser with a content blocker, and keep your OS updated.
If a movie site is blocked by your internet provider, that is usually because it was ordered blocked for piracy. Our guide on how to access blocked websites explains why sites get blocked in the first place.
