Disney+ does not sell a student-only Disney+ plan. What US college students can get is better: the Disney+ and Hulu bundle with ads for $6.49 a month, half the regular $12.99 price, verified through SheerID. That is cheaper than Disney+ on its own, which goes up to $12.49 a month with ads for existing subscribers from October 21, 2026.
This guide covers who qualifies, how verification works, what you get and do not get on the student bundle, the other student streaming deals worth stacking, and what to do when you graduate and the price doubles.
Disney announced new US prices on September 23, 2026. New subscribers pay them now; existing Disney+ subscribers move on their first bill on or after October 21. Disney+ with ads $12.49, Disney+ Premium $21.49, Disney+ and Hulu bundle with ads $12.99 (unchanged), bundle Premium $21.99. Student bundle $6.49. Disney's US pricing pages were not reachable from our test location, so we confirmed these figures against Disney's announcement as reported by several outlets.
- There is no standalone Disney+ student plan. The student deal is the Disney+ and Hulu bundle with ads, $6.49 a month.
- Who qualifies: 18 or older, enrolled at a US Title IV accredited college, verified through SheerID. Re-verify every 12 months.
- Cheaper still: Hulu with ads alone has been $1.99 a month for students, but it does not include Disney+ and may be closed to new signups.
- Catches: ads on both apps, 1080p only, no downloads on Disney+, monthly billing only.
- After graduation the bundle reverts to the regular price, $12.99 today. Set a reminder.
What the Disney+ student offer actually is
| Student bundle | Regular bundle (with ads) | Disney+ with ads alone | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly price | $6.49 | $12.99 | $12.49 |
| Yearly cost | $77.88 | $155.88 | $149.88 |
| Includes | Disney+ and Hulu, both with ads | Disney+ and Hulu, both with ads | Disney+ only |
| Video quality | Up to 1080p | Up to 1080p | Up to 1080p |
| Screens at once | 2 | 2 | 2 |
| Downloads | No on Disney+ | No on Disney+ | No |
| Who can buy | Verified US college students | Anyone | Anyone |
| Annual billing | No | No | No |
So a student pays about $78 a year for both services, against $156 for everyone else. And because Disney raised Disney+ alone to $12.49 while leaving the ad bundle at $12.99, the regular bundle is now only 50 cents more than Disney+ by itself. Disney is clearly steering everyone toward the bundle, students included.
Who qualifies
- Age 18 or older.
- Enrolled at a US Title IV accredited college or university, which covers most community colleges, universities and many trade schools. High school students do not qualify.
- Verified through SheerID, using your school email or an upload of a current enrolment document, class schedule or tuition receipt.
- New to the bundle. If you already pay for Disney+ or Hulu, especially through Apple, Google, Roku, Amazon or a phone carrier, cancel that subscription and let it run out first, or the student signup may be blocked.
- Re-verification every 12 months. If you do not re-verify, or you are no longer enrolled, the price reverts to the regular rate on your next bill.
How to sign up
- Go to Hulu's student page (the offer is run through Hulu, even though it includes Disney+).
- Pick Verify student status and enter your school and school email.
- Complete SheerID verification. Most school emails verify instantly; document uploads can take a day or two.
- Create the account and add a payment method. Billing starts right away; there is no free trial.
- Download both apps, or watch Hulu inside the Disney+ app, where Disney is moving most Hulu content during 2026.
The fine print students miss
- Ads, and more of them than you might expect. Both apps show ads, and some live and next-day content carries more. There is no way to pay a little extra to go ad-free while keeping the student price.
- No downloads on Disney+. Offline viewing is a Premium feature. If you watch on flights or a weak campus Wi-Fi, this matters.
- 1080p and two screens. Fine for a laptop or phone. 4K, Dolby Vision and Atmos are Premium-only.
- One account, your household. Disney charges for extra members outside the household on its regular plans, and it does check. Sharing your student login with roommates in another unit can trigger verification prompts.
- Graduating means a price hike. The bundle jumps to the regular price the month after your verification lapses. That is $12.99 today, and Disney has raised prices every October for four years.
What Disney+ and Hulu give you
The bundle's value is breadth. Disney+ brings Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, Disney Animation, National Geographic and The Simpsons. Hulu adds FX series such as The Bear and Shogun, adult animation, next-day episodes of ABC and FX shows, and a deep film library. Hulu is being folded into the Disney+ app during 2026, so you increasingly get both in one place.
Big theatrical releases usually arrive on Disney+ about three to four months after they leave cinemas. That means 2026's summer and fall films land on the student bundle over the coming months, while December releases such as the next Avengers film will follow in 2027. | Hulu (with ads) | $1.99/mo (may be closed to new signups) | $12.49/mo | Hulu only | SheerID or UNiDAYS |

The cheapest smart stack for a student is Hulu at $1.99 for TV if Hulu still offers it when you sign up, plus Spotify Premium Student if you want music (it includes Hulu with ads in the US, so check before paying twice). If Disney+ is the point, the $6.49 bundle beats any other route. Deals for people who are not students
If you do not qualify, these are the real ways to cut Disney's price:
- Student Beans offers. Through December 31, 2026, Student Beans lists 15% off a 12-month Disney+ plan. Short-term bundle promos also appear there from time to time. These are promos, not permanent prices.
- Annual Premium. Disney+ Premium annual is reported at $214.99 after the October rise, against $257.88 for 12 monthly payments. That is a break-even at 10 months. There is no annual option on the ad plan.
- Military. Service members and veterans with Exchange access can get 25% off annual Disney+ Premium through the Exchange.
- Carrier and cable perks. Some Verizon plans include the Disney bundle, and Spectrum TV Select includes Disney+ with ads at no extra cost. Check your bill before you pay twice.
- The Disney+, Hulu and HBO Max bundle. One login is not shared, but one bill covers all three services. It rose $2 in Disney's September 2026 change, to $21.99 with ads and $34.99 ad-free.
Disney+ price history
| Series | 2019 | 2021 | 2022 | 2023 | 2024 | 2025 | 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Disney+ ad-free / Premium ($) | 6.99$ | 7.99$ | 10.99$ | 13.99$ | 15.99$ | 18.99$ | 21.49$ |
| Date | With ads | Ad-free / Premium | What changed |
|---|---|---|---|
| November 2019 | $6.99 | Disney+ launches | |
| March 2021 | $7.99 | First rise | |
| December 2022 | $7.99 | $10.99 | Ad tier launches; ad-free becomes Premium |
| October 2023 | $7.99 | $13.99 | Premium up $3 |
| October 2024 | $9.99 | $15.99 | |
| October 2025 | $11.99 | $18.99 | |
| October 2026 | $12.49 | $21.49 | Fourth October rise in four years |
Ad-free Disney+ has tripled since launch. The pattern is now a rise every October, so if you are buying a non-student plan, assume another one in late 2027. The student bundle has historically held at half the regular bundle price.
What students say on Reddit
On r/college, r/disneyplus and r/StudentDeals, the reaction to the student bundle is mostly positive, with a few repeat complaints.
Praise: students call $6.49 for two services one of the few student deals that is actually worth it, and many say they found out about it from the Hulu side, not Disney's.
Complaints: verification failures when the school email is not recognised, surprise at the jump to full price after the 12-month re-verification, and confusion when an existing Disney+ subscription through an app store blocks the signup. Several users also point out that Hulu alone at $1.99 is enough if they do not care about Marvel or Star Wars.
Our verdict
Disney+ and Hulu student bundle
If you are a US college student and want Disney+, the $6.49 bundle is the only sensible way to pay. If you mainly want TV shows, Hulu alone at $1.99 is even better value. Re-verify each year and set a reminder for graduation.
- College students who watch Marvel, Star Wars or Pixar: take the $6.49 bundle
- Students who only want TV: Hulu with ads at $1.99
- Students with Spotify Student: check your included Hulu first
- Graduates: keep the regular $12.99 bundle only if you watch both services weekly
- Non-students: use Student Beans promos or the Premium annual plan
- Paying $12.49 for Disney+ alone when the bundle is $12.99
- Signing up while an app store Disney+ subscription is still active
- Expecting downloads or 4K on the student plan
