Rockstar Games’ highly anticipated GTA 6 trailer was allegedly leaked on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) hours before its scheduled release on Tuesday. As a result, the trailer was unveiled hours early. Predictably, the trailer gained a ton of attention on YouTube, with over 11 million views two hours after it was uploaded to the official Rockstar Games channel.
A Rockstar Games press release confirmed that the game will be available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and Series S in 2025, and the game’s trailer verifies numerous rumours that have been going around about the open-world game. Nevertheless, numerous PC gaming enthusiasts were disappointed that no information was provided regarding the game’s PC release date or availability.
The trailer’s leak follows a gameplay video that became popular on TikTok, revealing the game’s highly anticipated map and gameplay and sending gamers into a frenzy.

What is it?
It’s been ten years since the last Grand Theft Auto game, and now fans finally get what they want. No, not a new game. A real trailer and a year that the game is supposed to come out.
- What is it? Since 1997, GTA has been selling like crazy and causing a lot of trouble because of its inappropriate and adult content.
- The title pretty much says it all. The story changes from version to version, but the gameplay is all about committing crimes and causing trouble, like stealing cars, avoiding police, and getting into shootouts.
- For those of you who are easily stressed, like me, you can also just drive around like a normal person in the made-up cities that are based on real cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Las Vegas.
What might the GTA 6 Release Date be?
While we don’t yet have a specific release date, we do know that Grand Theft Auto 6 will be available in 2025. Platforms are now the central concern: Although the PC version will be released (more on that later), the question is whether it will launch at the same time as the console version or if we will have to wait a few months (or even longer) like previous Rockstar games.
What Platforms will GTA 6 be on?
Rockstar Games just made an official announcement that Grand Theft Auto VI will be coming out in 2025 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X. There isn’t an official date yet for when the PC version of the game will be out.
This current focus on next-generation consoles is in line with Rockstar’s usual release strategy, which is for their big games to come out first on consoles and then on PC. But it won’t come out on Xbox One, PS4, or Nintendo Switch, which are last-gen consoles.
When GTA 6 comes out, will it be available on PC?
The PC version of Grand Theft Auto 6 will not be available at launch. The announcement that Grand Theft Auto 6 will only be available on next-gen consoles, specifically the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X, was made public in a press release that was published on December 4, 2023, not long after the company was compelled to release the GTA VI trailer due to online leaks. Let the PS4 and Xbox One consoles die a happy death; the game will not be available on those systems.
We can presume that Rockstar plans to bypass PC at launch since there’s no mention of whether GTA will launch on PC. PC ports of Rockstar games typically occur around a year after the original release. This is nothing new; games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto 5 have followed suit.
The sixth Grand Theft Auto game is sure to be Rockstar Games’ and Take-Two’s most lucrative project to date, so it’s highly unlikely that the PC version will ever be delayed. Following the game’s release on consoles, Grand Theft Auto 6 will likely make its way to PC in 2026 or 2027. As PC players, we feel your pain, but this was something we were all expecting.
The PC port of Grand Theft Auto VI, when it releases in 2025, hopefully, won’t take too long. Additionally, Rockstar Games could announce Grand Theft Auto 6 for PC sometime between now and 2025, though this is highly improbable based on past events.

GTA 6 Setting
With Rockstar’s choice of city and decade, everything makes sense. We now know that GTA 6 will take place in Vice City in the present day.
There were already rumours in July 2021 that GTA 6 would be coming back to Vice City. It was said that GTA 6 would take place in a modern version of the series’ setting, which was said to be Miami. In the same predictions, it was said that GTA 6’s map would change or grow over time, possibly through DLC or live updates. Other sources have also said that Miami will win, as reported by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier.
GTA 6 Location
Returning to Vice City for GTA 6, we find the notorious Ocean View Hotel, as seen in Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition (Image credit: Rockstar Games). The original game took place in 1986, but the new 2025 release seems to be set in the present day. As Rockstar put it, “home to the neon-soaked streets of Vice City and beyond” describes the state of Leonida, where we will be travelling. It seems like Vice City is going to be a part of a larger map that will make up GTA 6, which is said to be the “biggest, most immersive evolution of Grand Theft Auto yet.”
The trailer has shown us a more beautiful Vice City, set in rural Florida that is just as chaotic as the real thing, and it looks even better than before. While places like Starfish Island are familiar, whether we can return to our old haunts—the Malibu Club, the Ocean View Hotel, and Little Haiti—is still up in the air.
The updated version of Vice City is so meticulously detailed that fans have already begun comparing it to the original game’s locations, as shown in the trailer.
GTA 6 Map
Leaked footage and screens suggest a play area that extends beyond Vice City, though the final Grand Theft Auto 6 map has not been shown just yet. Some of the leaked images seem to depict completely new sections of Vice City, similar to how Rockstar extended Los Santos between GTA: San Andreas and GTA 5. There has been talk that Grand Theft Auto 6 will head south to the Everglades and the Florida Keys, two tropical island chains, adding to the rumor that Vice City is based in Miami. There was no in-game display of the “Gator Keys” in the original Grand Theft Auto: Vice City; however, they were mentioned in a radio broadcast. If the images are any indication, the Grand Theft Auto 6 map will feature a variety of landscapes.
Some fans are even more adamant than GTA 5 fans that the map in GTA 6 will be substantially bigger. The GTA 6 subreddit community has been busy trying to piece together the game’s map using Google Earth and Paint, based on the leaked coordinates. Great minds.
Characters and Story of Grand Theft Auto 6
The first Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer was unveiled by Rockstar Games on December 4, 2023. Lucia, the protagonist of Grand Theft Auto 6, is introduced in it. Gameplay footage that surfaced online in early 2023 suggests that Grand Theft Auto 6 may have a dual protagonist system. The trailer supports this theory by showing Lucia and her accomplice, who remains nameless, committing heists together.
From what we can tell, the plot of GTA 6 will revolve around the couple as they try to pull off a major heist. Beyond that, we know that Lucia has served time in prison and that the events will unfold in and around Vice City. Whether or not players will be able to control Lucia and her partner in GTA 6 is still up in the air, but at least we have a better idea of who she is than the man in the trailer. It is safe to assume that there are two playable characters, as they are both featured on the main title card of the game.
GTA 6 leaks
The big dump of leaked footage might still be out there, but you won’t miss much unless you’re interested in breaking down debug footage. From what we’ve seen, this is a GTA game in the works. It’s probably all older footage and is a work in progress, not a sneak peek at the finished product. We don’t think that exists yet because making games is a very iterative process.
If GTA 6 comes out, here are a few things that we might be able to look forward to:
- There are two playable characters. They are called Lucia and Jason, and they are likely the “Bonnie and Clyde-inspired” crime pair that has been talked about in the past.
- The video shows a modern rail car with the name “Vice City Metro,” which supports the rumours of a return to the made-up state of Florida.
- Setting in the present day: We saw at least one person walking around with a smartphone, which seems to disprove rumours that the scene might be in the 1980s.
Even though they look likely, everything else we can learn from the footage—Lucia robbing a waffle shop, characters that can talk, someone moving and crawling while lying down, and a messaging system called “WhatUp!”—should be taken as subject to change until Rockstar makes GTA 6 official.

So, what now?
Rockstar Games has said that GTA VI will come out in 2025, but they have previously pushed back big games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA V for months and months. If you want to wrestle a gator right away and can’t wait, the fastest way to get there is to buy a one-way Spirit Airlines ticket to Fort Lauderdale.
Will GTA 6 be available online?
Not yet, Los Santos in GTA 5 has no more gas. The big multiplayer world from Rockstar is still getting new events, activities, and content all the time. Online servers have been in GTA 4, GTA 5, and both Red Dead Redemption games, so it seems like they should be in GTA 6.
Will there be cross-play in GTA 6?
Rockstar doesn’t have cross-play in any of their games yet, and we don’t know if GTA 6 will either. That being said, we still don’t know much about the feature in GTA 6, but it might be the first time it shows up in one of their games.
This might let people with different kinds of hardware play together. Whether you’re playing on a PC or a console, you might be able to do anything you want in GTA 6.
Will GTA 6 be available for pre-order?
The first trailer for GTA 6 probably didn’t even bother many players who were already interested in the game. Any new movie in the series will sell a lot of copies because it is one of the biggest in entertainment history. The fact that so many people want to pre-order GTA 6 right now makes sense.
Currently, there are no details on how to pre-order GTA 6, but that should change sometime in 2024. For people who buy it before it comes out, there may be a fancy collector’s edition with a lot of digital extras.
