What Is Nerdle?
Nerdle is a daily math puzzle where instead of guessing a word, you guess an 8-character equation. Each equation must be mathematically correct. Green tiles mean the right number or operator in the right position. Purple tiles mean the right character in the wrong position. Black means the character isn't in the equation.
How to Play Nerdle
- You have 6 guesses to find a hidden 8-character equation.
- The equation must use the format
number operator number = number, totalling 8 characters. - Colour feedback after each guess: green (correct place), purple (wrong place), black (not in equation).
- Operations follow standard order of operations, multiplication and division before addition and subtraction.
- A new equation resets every day at midnight UTC.
8 Tips to Solve Nerdle Faster
- Start with common digits, 1, 2, 3, 4 appear most often in 8-char equations.
- Use the equals sign strategically, placing = in position 5 or 6 helps cover common answer lengths.
- Try simple structures first,
12+34=46covers many digits and operators in one guess. - Remember commutativity,
3+4and4+3are treated as the same equation. - Multiplication locks in fewer options,
6*7=42only has one right side possibility. - Think about two-digit answers, most Nerdle answers end in a 2-digit result.
- Eliminate operators first, knowing whether it's + - * or / narrows it down fast.
- Work backwards from the answer, if you know the right side is 42, think what equals 42 in 5 chars.
